Learning from a Mountain: An Exploration of Geography Disciplines
Join this walking tour and see 丁香园AV鈥檚 public spaces through the eyes of a geographer. You will get a sense of multiple disciplines in the field of geography as we map out how the design of these spaces interacts with the unique physical environment of Burnaby Mountain, how it impacts the way people engage with one another, and how a campus designed in the 1960s is adjusting to changing climate patterns.

Planning Sustainable Communities for Tomorrow
In this fast-paced session, you will play the role of a community planner on a team tasked with creating a 15-minute neighbourhood in a community near you. You will learn all about the biggest trends driving growth and change in communities and how planners bend and balance these trends. You might already be familiar with buzzwords like, 鈥渢ransit-oriented鈥�, 鈥渕issing middle housing鈥�, 鈥渘ature-based solutions鈥�, 鈥渇ood justice鈥� and 鈥渟ocial infrastructure鈥�; now see what happens when planners work together to put these terms into action.
Resource and Environmental Management (second session only)
Paper or Plastic?
Whether we鈥檙e choosing how to travel, what to eat or what to wear, all our decisions affect the environment, and some have a greater impact on it than others. Many cities have implemented bans on plastic grocery bags to reduce plastic waste, but are paper bags really more environmentally friendly than plastic? The answer is more complicated than you may think. In this session, we鈥檒l tackle this question while exploring some of the nuances of environmental management and policy. By the end, you will also have the tools to make informed environmental decisions in your daily life.
