Reconciling Curriculum Grant Program

Grant Information

The next application period for all awards is March 1, 2025 to May 1, 2025.

This call invites creative proposals from FASS continuing faculty, both individuals and teams involving two or more departments/programs, for constructive action on addressing the ongoing legacies of colonialism and the work of reconciliation in the following categories.

Micro Research and Teaching Development Grants

Instructors may apply each semester for a grant of up to $1,500 to involve graduate/undergraduate students in archival and library or other development to advance their goals in reconciliation.

New Lower Division (LD) Courses Advancing Decolonization/ Reconciliation

Teams of continuing instructors may propose to support an existing or develop a new special topics LD thematic course on a topic that advances reconciliation. One grant is awarded for up to $25,000 annually. The first course should be designed to be offered ideally in the next academic year. This grant is awarded after review of an NOI and full proposal due in the subsequent fall semester. The course is usually expected to be offered no later than the next academic year and may be offered up to two additional times.

New Upper Division (UD) / Graduate Courses

Continuing instructors may apply for individual or team grants for up to $10,000 to support, develop and carry out innovative upper division or cross-listed graduate courses that incorporate Indigenous perspectives toward the work of reconciliation. Ideally, this course will be accepted by the relevant departments as counting toward one or more of their graduate credentials.

At least two grants (Up to $10,000 for each) are awarded by the fall semester in the same academic year.

Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training and Professional Development

Instructors (sessional, contractually limited or continuing) may apply for small development grants for workshops, events, or online initiatives to advance pedagogies of decolonizing teaching practices, including conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racist teaching and learning strategies intended for faculty, graduate student and staff professional development. Successful proposals will normally work with the FASS Teaching Fellows and Centre for Educational Excellence and feature strong First Nations community participation and/or peer review.

Each grant offers up to $5,000 for reading groups, seminars, or faculty retreats. Up to three can be awarded annually.

Community-based Partner Development

Knowledge-holders from the community may propose projects for credit or non-credit curriculum, events, residencies, or exhibits in partnership with faculty members or academic programs. This category is intended to create space for relevant, impactful, and innovative programming that increases Indigenous knowing, teaching, learning, and sharing within FASS.

Proposals that provide thoughtful Indigenous content, emphasizing learning in relationships with fellow students, teachers, families, members of the community, and the local lands are encouraged.

Available: Up to $10,000 for each grant
