FASS 222 D300 - Finding voice: Public speaking
Learn the art of public speaking
Provides an opportunity for a skills-based immersion into the art of Public Speaking. In a workshop setting, learners will critically analyze contemporary speeches while developing their own skills in speech, rhetoric, non-verbal communication, and storytelling.
This course is for students, in any discipline, who wish to learn to be effective public speakers in academia and beyond.

- Identify, analyze and demonstrate key rhetorical and non-verbal strategies in a persuasive speech.
- Plan, structure, and deliver a clear, coherent and meaningful message for a specific context.
- Give and receive relevant and constructive feedback.
- Experiment with techniques in managing performance anxiety.
- Reflect on ways that public speech has impacted personal relationships and beliefs.

Sarah Ford
Sarah Ford, Educational Consultant at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV's Centre for Educational Excellence and owner of Vancouver's VoiceWerx, has over twenty years' experience working with educators, actors, professionals, lawyers and journalists in developing presentation skills. As a professional actor and voice over performer, she brings her extensive background in performance to her approach to presentation skills training. She is passionate about how our words and voices have the capacity to make meaningful change in our world and participants who have trained with Sarah commend her warmth, humour, skill and commitment to each individual with whom she works.
