Research on the built environment and dementia-inclusive planning is relatively sparse. How persons living with dementia perceive, interpret, and interact with the neighbourhood built environment is not adequately understood. There is a lack of guidance on methodological considerations necessary to explore people-place relations in the neighbourhood built environment based on the lived experience of persons living with dementia; however, their meaningful inclusion in research is necessary to address this gap.
The DemSCAPE project will be highlighting reflections on conducting:
- walk-along interviews
- embodied videography
- photo documentation
- semi-structured sit-down interviews
- visual elicitation using photos and video clips
to explore the influence of the neighbourhood built environment on the outdoor walking experience of persons living with dementia.
