City of Vernon (2024)
On June 24, 2024, Vernon City Council endorsed an Age and Dementia Friendly Community Plan. The Plan was developed in consultation with community members, health care providers, and City staff across all divisions. In collaboration with the Vernon Seniors Action Network, the Alzheimer Society of B.C., and the DemSCAPE project, the City developed four initiatives: 1) Dementia Stigma Reduction Training; 2) Social Marketing Campaign; 3) Neighbourhood Walk-Along; and 4) Creating Age and Dementia Friendly Plans, Policies, or Design Guidelines.

Hiro Ito is a graduate student at the University of British Columbia (UBC) completing her MSc in Population and Public Health. With her supervisor, Dr. Susan Cox, Hiro is researching how Japanese Canadians can live well with dementia and included DemSCAPE as a resource for Tonari Gumi Japanese Community Volunteers Association in both English and Japanese.
