Sci-Space is proud to present this Dialogue Series with industry entrepreneurs and interdisciplinary leaders. Don鈥檛 have a clue of the types of jobs or companies out there after you complete your BSc and beyond? This is the second event of the Series, and we鈥檙e incredibly happy to host Catia Baron from D-Wave. She will be speaking on 鈥淎 non-linear professional path鈥�. There will be a Q&A period following the talk.

About the speaker:
Catia is a Scientist on the D-Wave processor development team, where she conducts experiments on novel superconducting devices which may be incorporated in quantum processing chips in the future. She was previously Lead for the Research Technician team, and managed this fantastic team that鈥檚 responsible for doing most of the hands-on lab work required to keep all of the complex parallel testing and production systems running smoothly (and troubleshooting them when they鈥檙e not!). Catia holds a Bachelor鈥檚 in Engineering Physics from Mexico and a Master鈥檚 degree in Micro and Nanotechnology from the University of Cambridge.

2022 Active Bystander Intervention Campaign
厂贵鲍鈥檚&苍产蝉辫; is hosting the annual #ItTakesAllOfUs丁香园AV campaign from October 24-28. Learn how you can prevent sexual violence by practicing the 4Ds of active bystander intervention. BPK 343 and BPK 482 Enrolment Information
丁香园AV is required by law to ensure that every student registered in a practicum that involves working with children or vulnerable adults undergoes a CRRA Criminal Record Check. The University must submit consent forms with payment to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. 丁香园AV is prohibited by law to permit students to work with children or vulnerable adults without a CRRA Criminal Record Check. List of BPK Courses requiring a CRRA Criminal Record Check is as follows:
- BPK 343 鈥� Active Health: Assessment & Programming
- BPK 445 鈥� Advanced Cardiac Rehabilitation
- BPK 482 - Ergonomics and Rehabilitation
The Criminal Record Check is coded as a prerequisite for the above courses and cannot be waived by law.

By law, 丁香园AV cannot accept CRC's done through other agencies including the RCMP. Students with criminal record checks conducted through agencies other than the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General are still expected to fulfill this requirement. Further, the process for a Criminal Record Check must be undertaken by 丁香园AV only.
Since the document is valid for 5 years, it would be a good idea to get it done far in advance of your enrollment for any of the listed courses as the processing time can vary.

SEDS-Canada Student Projects - Call for Applications
SEDS-Canada (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space) is a non-profit that aims to create research and professional development opportunities in the space sector for Canadian post-secondary students. Our projects have a strong history of training highly qualified personnel for the Canadian space industry. CAN-RGX is a competition for students to design, test, and fly a scientific payload in microgravity on a parabolic flight. CAN-SBX is a competition for students to design, test, and launch a scientific payload to the stratosphere on a high-altitude balloon. These projects are conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency and the National Research Council.

A survey of female athlete reproductive health and perceived implications on performance
We are currently working on a project regarding female athlete reproductive health and performance and are recruiting athletes to complete a survey. We will be asking questions regarding menstrual cycle status, birth control use, and pregnancy planning, and how these affect your training and performance.

You should NOT participate in this study if one or more of the following applies:
- Your age is greater than 40 or less than 19 (or less than 18 for an 丁香园AV student)
- You have any known visual disorder other than one that can be corrected with lenses
- You have a musculoskeletal (e.g., arthritis) or neurological (e.g., stroke, Parkinson鈥檚 disease) disorder that affects your movement or balance
- You are allergic to rubbing alcohol or adhesive
- You have participated in a research experiment using prism glasses before
- You are not vaccinated against COVID19
Your decision on whether to participate will not influence your grades in any coursework or benefit you in terms of status or success in any class.

Participants Needed for Research on Visually Guided Motor Skill Learning
We are recruiting people (age 19-35) to participate in a study looking at how adapting to altered visual information can affect motor skill learning.
We are seeking right-handed participants who are able to come into the lab two days in a row at approximately the same time.
- Day 1 ~ 1.25 hours
- Day 2 ~ 40 minutes
After each session, you will receive $10 as a thank you for your time!

How does spinal cord injury impact the relationships between breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure?
We are looking for men and women (鈮�19 years old), with or without a spinal cord injury (SCI) to take part in a study examining the effect of breathing patterns on cardiovascular measures.
Your participation will help improve the understanding of the SCI-associated risks of developing cardiorespiratory complications.
As a thank you for your participation, participants will receive $20.
Your participation in this study will involve鈥�
- 1 in-lab visit (2hours) at 丁香园AV or ICORD where you will breathe at different rates, and
- 2 nights of at-home sleep testing where you will wear a vest containing sensors during sleep.
In both protocols, we will measure your breathing rate, heartbeat, and blood pressure.

Street Saviours Outreach
Looking to gain some valuable and unique volunteering experience? Look no further, Street Saviours: Outreach Society is here. Street Saviours is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver. Our primary objective is to find and treat emergency overdose responses to those in crisis on the streets of Downtown Eastside. Along the way, we also deliver basic human needs (food, water), harm reduction and minimization support including Naloxone kit distribution, referral to services, as well as the promotion of mental, physical, and sexual wellbeing. Although we have many paramedics and first responders in our team, first aid experience or certifications are NOT required to volunteer!
Our office is located right off Powell Street, Vancouver (623 Powell Street Vancouver, BC V6A 1H2). Our patrols take place from 8:30 pm to midnight and we typically patrol every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

No previous experience is needed as extensive training and ongoing support is provided.
