Mentored by the Lowenberger- and Gries-labs, high school students shine at nationwide science competition

At the recent Canada-wide Science Fair at Frederickton, Charley Cai (Carl Lowenberger's mentee) won a Silver Medal in the senior division as well as the Canadian Young Researcher Award for his project "Chagas Disease: Decoding Vector-Based Pathogen Recognition". (Link: )
Similarly, Claire and Vanessa Scrimini (supported by Santosh Alamsetti and Regine Gries in the Gries-lab) received the NSERC Young Innovators Award at the regional science fair and at the Canada-Wide Science Fair were awarded a Gold Medal and a Challenge Award (for energy) for their project Algae Meet Fungi: Microalgae-Fungi Co-Pelletization for Biofuel Production.
