CURRENT STATE OF WOMEN IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) IN YUKON

The Current State of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Yukon analyzes data pertaining to the participation and representation of women and girls in STEM professions and education. This report explores data regarding the attendance of elementary school girls at STEM-related camps and the results of standardized testing for numeracy, reading, and writing at Grade 4 and 7 levels. It also analyzes the application of young women to secondary level STEM electives as well as data regarding post-secondary programs, from application to graduation. The rates of employment for women in STEM fields in Yukon and funding amounts provided to researchers are also included.

WWEST Associate Chair at Yukon University

The WWEST Associate Chair at Yukon University was announced in January 2018 with Alison Anderson as the WWEST Associate Chair. WWEST’s mission is to engage students, industry, and the wider community to increase the awareness and participation of women and other under-represented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields of study and careers. WWEST is the operating name for , based at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and currently held by .

Funding for this project was provided by the Government of Yukon Office of the Science Advisor, the 2015-2020 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the British Columbia and Yukon Region (WWEST), and Yukon University.
