End of biometrics exemption for in-Canada temporary residence applicants

As of February 23, 2023 the has resumed biometrics collection for in-Canada temporary residence applications.  Temporary residence applications include: 

  • Initial study and work permit applications
  • Study permit, work permit and visitor record extension applications
  • Temporary resident visa/TRV (visa in your passport) applications
  • Applications to restore status as a student, worker, or visitor 
  • Applications for a temporary resident permit (TRP)

You may need to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo) if you have not done so as part of an application to come to Canada in the last 10 years and you submit an in-Canada temporary residence application to IRCC on or after February 23, 2023.  For information about who needs to give biometrics, visit the . Instructions for how to give your biometrics, including where to go to give biometrics, are found on the . The biometric fee is $85 and must be paid when you submit your temporary residence application to IRCC.
