Awards

Awards are given in recognition of distinguished intellectual, cultural, social, or athletic achievements or contributions to the community. Awards are available to Canadian and International students. When you receive an award, Financial Aid and Awards will notify you in writing.  Due to the high volume of applications received each term, the payment of funds may not occur until the middle of the term of application.  We encourage you to plan accordingly.

How to apply

The Fall 2024 application period is now closed. Successful recipients will be notified by end of October.

  1. Check the application period and final deadline at Application Deadlines. 
  2. Review the Scholarship and Awards List to determine which scholarships/awards you want to apply for.
  3. Apply online by logging in to the .
  4. Click on "Student Center".
  5. Go to Financial Aid and Awards (under Finances).
  6. Click on "Apply for Scholarships/Awards".
  7. List the scholarships/awards you want to apply for on your online application.
  8. Complete and submit your application.
  9. Supporting documentation (if any) are to be emailed to faawards@sfu.ca by the application deadline.
  10. Set up Direct Deposit (administered through the Student Accounts Office) as soon as possible, to receive any refunds you may be eligible to receive.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for an award, you must:

  • be in good academic standing and have a minimum CGPA of 2.00 at 間眅埶AV during the term of application (waived in your first term at 間眅埶AV).
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded courses at 間眅埶AV in the term of application.

Challenge, audit and credit-free courses are not considered.

Enrolment in a Co-op term (3 units) does not satisfy the enrolment requirement as it is not a a standard graded course. 

A student with a disability is eligible to apply for awards if the student is enrolled in a minimum of 6 or more units of standard graded courses and meets all other eligibility requirements. At the time of application, the student has to provide a letter from 間眅埶AVs Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) confirming that the student is registered with the Centre (CAL).

Some financial aid is specifically available for Indigenous students only.  can be contextualized as Indigenous peoples of Canada to refer specifically to First Nations, M矇tis, and Inuit peoples
