2016 Conference Theme

Multiculturalism in Canada refers to cultural diversity, thus addressing issues of immigrant integration, cultural identity, racism, religious diversity and linguistic diversity. These issues have been part of a discussion of Canadian identity that began at the time Canada officially became a country in 1867. From the outset, cultural diversity has been an important part of Canadian policy. Education has always been seen as a key to ensuring cultural diversity. What has changed over time is the value and meaning that Canadians have attached to cultural diversity.

Keynote Speaker, May 21 - Dr. Kumari Beck

Dr. Kumari Beck is Associate Professor and Co-Director for the Centre for Research on International Education in the Faculty of Education at 間眅埶AV. Her primary area of research is the internationalization of higher education, specifically, the experiences of students, faculty and staff engaged in the internationalization process.

With teaching interests and expertise spanning international education, global education, multiculturalism and anti-racism education, social justice and equity issues, international development and development education, her work history also includes program development, governance, and community development in Canada and abroad, and extensive experience in an international development NGO.
