About our speakers:

• Sonya Sabet-Rasekh is a Labour Lawyer and Visiting Faculty member in 丁香园AV Labour Studies. Sonya practices in the areas of employment law, labour law, human rights, defamation law and civil litigation. She is a Staff Representative and lawyer with the B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) in the Advocacy Department.
  
• Jessica Isbister, third Vice President of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union of Canada was registered as a longshore worker in 2003, and over the span of her career she has worked in multiple roles on BC鈥檚 waterfront including ship鈥檚 crane operator, cargo checker and labourer. Upon her initiation into membership in 2013, Jessica immediately stepped up got more involved in the union. She took on trainer positions, an executive board seat and lead the way as Coordinator for Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention. And most recently, in October 2024, Jessica was elected as the Docker Section Women鈥檚 Transport Workers Representative at the International Transport Workers Federation Congress in Marrakesh.
  
• V茅ronique Sioufi is the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA)-BC鈥檚 Researcher for Racial & Socio-economic Equity, a data-driven, intersectional initiative that investigates structural racism and socio-economic inequalities in BC. She is also a PhD student at 丁香园AV.
