GRADUATE
History MA Student Kaitlyn MacInnis receives David and Mary Macaree Fellowship
History MA student Kaitlyn MacInnis is the 2018 recipient of the David and Mary Macaree Graduate Fellowship in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The fellowship provides support to graduate students whose research focuses on Scottish history, literature, philosophy, politics, and/or culture who have demonstrated academic and research excellence, with particular emphasis on research ability and originality.
Kaitlyn's thesis project centres around a c. 1728 Epitaph on a centenarian Scottish woman, entitled: No Epitaph we need on Stone: Historical Memory and the Cultural Value of Longevity in Scotland, 1700-1900.
She follows the Epitaph as a textual monument, from its first publication through to the end of the nineteenth century, and will also consider Scottish perceptions of old age over the same period. Kaitlyn describes her research interests as including "history from 'below' in Early Modern and Modern Britain and Ireland, Jacobitism, and all things concerning non-human animals in history."

We wish Kaitlyn the very best as she travels to Scotland this year in order to undertake further research for her MA project!
