Research Description

I am interested in ideas of home and place and the material culture attached to domestic spaces. I will be looking at why the Vancouver Special, as unique housing design, became so popular in the city in the 1960s-1980s and why the City planning department created a distinctly divided neighbourhood aesthetic within the city.

Working Dissertation Title

Whats Special About the Vancouver Special?

Biography

I have had a long-standing interest in both Canadian history and domestic architecture.  I taught high school for ten years and loved it, but felt that I needed a new challenge. Pursing further graduate work allows me to explore ideas in much greater depth as well as still be in the classroom as a TA.
