Biography

Born in Ontario and raised in Michigan, Ontario and Alberta, I have worked in universities in Ontario and here at 間眅埶AV. My degrees were completed at Toronto, the London School of Economics and Oxford. Large segments of my academic career have been divided between the classroom, research and academic administration and only recently have I been working again as a "regular" fulltime faculty member. Beyond the academy, I am an active jogger, skier, canoer and wilderness trekker.

Research Interests

My principal focus is Britain in the first half of the twentieth century with particular interests in political history, Britain's international relations and the history of the press. I teach international and European history in the period c.1870 to 1991. Recent graduate supervision has involved work on British foreign policy in Europe, the Royal Navy, the
Nationalist community in Ulster, R. H. Tawney and education, the Anglican Church, British policy in the Middle East in the 1920s and the place of memory in history. I am currently finishing a book on the British Sunday newspaper, "The Observer", for the period 1914-1948.
