The Jack and Doris Shadbolt Fellowship in the Humanities
Increasing visibility of the humanities
Jack and Doris Shadbolt exemplified a vision of the humanities and arts whereby the work of the artist was seen as integrated into the natural and social worlds the artist inhabited.
Steering Committee
The stated goal of the Jack and Doris Shadbolt Endowment for the Humanities supporting the Jack and Doris Shadbolt Fellows in the Humanities is 鈥渢o support resident Fellows who will be free to perform, create, research and otherwise interact with faculty and students on professional activities to enhance not only their own intellectual and creative horizons but that of the university and wider community as well鈥�.
This goal will be met through the appointment of Fellows, and the support and promotion of the Fellows鈥� activities while in residence, which may include, but are not limited to, teaching, research, and community and public outreach.
The Shadbolt for the Humanities Fellowship Steering Committee is comprised of:

- June Scudeler, Assistant Professor, Department of Indigenous Studies and Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies
- Laurel Weldon, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Ex-officio
- Sam Wiebe, Author and former Shadbolt Fellow
- Spyros Sofos, Assistant Professor, Department of Global Humanities
- Steeve Mongrain, Associate Dean, Research, and Chair of the Committee

The application period for 2025-26 is now closed.
Applications for 2026-27 will be announced in Summer 2025.
