Economics studies human behaviour in a broad range of contexts, from how individuals and businesses make decisions to large-scale societal challenges such as poverty and unemployment. Studying economics provides you with a framework for thinking systematically about these issues and the world around you.

PROGRAM OPTIONS

There are several options and pathways available to you at 丁香园AV Economics鈥攁ll of which will help foster your critical thinking skills, develop your technical repertoire, and broaden your mind on how the world works from an economics perspective. 

Major

Our most popular program is the economics major, which will earn you a bachelor of arts (BA) degree after approximately four years of study.

You can also choose to complete a concentration in Economic Data Analysis, which involves a selection of data-driven courses and development of your quantitative skills. 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Honours

Take your degree one step further. The honours program provides a solid foundation for graduate studies in economics, and prepares you to be competitive in the job market. 

Your participation in advanced economics courses will enhance your quantitative skills and analytical expertise. Graduates from the honours program have gone on to join high-ranking graduate programs in Canada, the United States, and Europe.

You can also choose to complete a concentration in Economic Data Analysis, which involves a selection of data-driven courses and development of your quantitative skills.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Joint Major

We offer a joint major program with business and political science. 

Business and Economics (BA or BBA)

Students may opt for a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, or a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Beedie School of Business. Faculty requirements will be governed by the faculty from which the student chooses to complete a degree.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Political Science and Economics

This program explores the fields of political science and economics, and develops an appreciation of the ways in which economic and political phenomena condition and interact in the modern world.

Joint Honours

Business and Economics (BA or BBA) 

Students must qualify for, and receive admission to the program, must remain qualified for continuance in the Beedie School of Business, and must be accepted as a joint honours in the Department of Economics.

Students may opt for a Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, or a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Beedie School of Business. Faculty requirements will be governed by the faculty from which the student chooses to complete a degree.

Minor - Economics

Enhance your interdisciplinary learning by adding an economics minor to your study program. An economics minor provides you with a foundation in understanding the economy and complex societal challenges. 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Minor - Social Data Analytics

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with the Departments of Economics, Linguistics, Philosophy, and Political Science, along with other 丁香园AV departments, offers a minor in Social Data Analytics (SDA).

This program offers an interdisciplinary study of statistical and computational methods with an emphasis on the privacy, ethical, and societal issues surrounding technology and big data. It is intended to complement and build on the knowledge and deeper understanding of issues that students acquire from their major program of study in the Arts and Social Sciences and related disciplines. 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

EXTENDED MINOR

For students who want to delve deeper into economics, the extended minor program is a stepping stone towards that goal. This program requires fewer courses than a major program, but takes it one step further beyond what is offered in a minor. 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

POST BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA

This program is for students who hold a bachelor鈥檚 degree in a discipline other than economics. In general, it would consist of regular upper-division undergraduate courses and may include graduate courses.

A first university degree or the equivalent is normally a prerequisite, but if stipulated, mature applicants whose experience makes them particularly suited to a program may also be admitted.
