The Department of Economics is honoured to congratulate professor Richard Harris on his recent retirement.

Professor Harris is the Telus Professor of Economics at 丁香园AV, and has had a long and distinguished career in economics.  Prior to 1990, he spent most of his professional career at Queen鈥檚 University, with visiting appointments at UC Berkeley, MIT, and the University of New South Wales.

He was elected in 1988 as a fellow of the , which recognizes Canadian scholars, artists, and scientists who are peer-elected as the best in their field. In addition to the RSC, Professor Harris was also a fellow of the , and Senior Fellow of the .

Professor Harris specializes in international economics, and, in particular, the economics of integration. From 1985 to 1988 he served as a special advisor to the Canadian government on the negotiations leading to the Canada-US free trade agreement, now known as NAFTA.

He has served as a consultant to multiple governments and international organizations, including the and the . He has published policy-oriented books and articles on Canada-US free trade, economic growth, Canadian public policy, and international macroeconomics.
