Nellie Davis

About Nellie:

After living on Vancouver Island for a decade, Nellie returned home to Northern British Columbia where she became passionate about the economy of rural communities, their traditional resources, and the development of the lifestyle, recreation, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the communities. Nellie worked as an instructor at a local college for 8 years before she joined the Economic Development Department of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako in 2016.

Nellie enrolled in the CED program to expand her worldview and skillset, so she can be as effective as possible in supporting the development of vibrant rural communities.

Project:

Nellie created the Food Forward Project with an aim to support local adults with diagnosed or self-identified barriers to employment. By providing training and education in customer service and food related positions to applicants, the program prepares them for long-term employment.  The Food Forward program also supports local businesses by filling the gaps in their work force and encouraging people in their communities to achieve long-term employment. Food Forward operates in partnership with the local Community College and the Regional Food Hub and together they share the goal of improving their local economy and supporting their community.
