Ashley Murphey

About Ashley:

Ashley, a Registered Professional Planner, works as a Planner for the City of Fort St. John. She is an avid adventurer, and can often be found hiking, fishing and dirt biking around the province or travelling to new places. Ashley, a frequent volunteer, was the Volunteer Management Chair for the Marketing Directorate during the 2020 BC Winter Games in Fort St. John.

Always looking for new learning opportunities, Ashley was excited to enroll in the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV CED program to gain insight into economic development within northern and rural municipalities, and how that can translate to planning for inclusive and sustainable communities.

Project:

Ashley created the DAS Compost program for her final project. While regional landfills are running out of capacity, this initiative will reduce the amount of organic matter reaching landfills by offering a convenient at-home pick-up service for residential compost. The compost created through organic matter will then be sold to greenhouses, gardeners, and farmers, attributing to food security in the community. As there are currently no public composting programs available in the Peace Region, this program will provide residents with a local, convenient system, helping to decrease the amount of compost materials ending up in the landfill.
