CRAIG ASMUNDSON BPK ENGAGEMENT AWARD

The Craig Asmundson Endowment Fund was established at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 2014 with a generous gift from Craig Asmundson, who is a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology (BPK), in honour of the university's upcoming 50th anniversary and Craig's 50 year legacy to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Supporters of BPK are welcome to donate to the fund. The endowment will be eligible for matching funds from BPK. The endowment fund will support the Craig Asmundson BPK Engagement Award. The award is intended to recognize and provide funding to a BPK undergraduate student who has demonstrated positive contributions to the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV community including university engagement, leadership, volunteerism, team work and/or ambassadorship of BPK to the external community.

Terms of Reference:

The award, valued at a minimum of $900, is available to an undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:

  • is enrolled in full-time studies (9 units or more) in an honours or major program in the department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology; 
  • is in good academic standing; and 
  • has demonstrated positive contributions for the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and BPK community including university engagement, leadership, volunteerism, team work and/ or ambassadorship of BPK to the external community and/ or mentorship to other students. 

Additional Nomination Instructions

One award available at $1,900.

Eligibility

All students must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and be in good academic standing.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units of standard graded courses in the term of award.
  • Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.

  •  Two letters of reference from individuals who can verify the community/volunteer service and the impact of the applicant's role in that service

The award will be made by the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee on the nomination of the Chair, Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology.

About Craig Asmundson

Craig Asmundson was a charter student at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV when the university opened in 1965, and has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology (formerly the School of Kinesiology) since 1975. He teaches the first year required "Introduction to Kinesiology" course and the fourth year required "Human Physiology Laboratory" course. As a student and faculty member at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, he has been involved in many departmental, university, and community service activities. His view is that the university experience is much more valuable to those who are involved in service activities.
