QUESTIONS
1) What is your current position? What does a typical work day look like for you?
General Manager at Innovative Fitness Port Moody. I oversee all day to day operations of the private training studio. This involves coaching clients, leading & empowering our team of coaches and management staff, continually assessing and updating our services, systems & procedures to grow our business & exceed our revenue goals.
I also play professional lacrosse in the NLL for the Vancouver Warriors. Three time NLL Champion. This is a weekend league played across North America. A typical weekend involves flying to meet our opponent, practicing the night we fly in, shoot around the next morning, playing that evening and flying home the morning after the game.
2) How did your education in BPK influence your career?
My education provided me with the tools I needed to be successful in the health and fitness industry. I gained both knowledge and experience that I continue to use on a daily basis. I began my position with Innovative Fitness as a Co-op student. Without ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and the education and experience I received from my degree I would not have been able to have the success that I have had.
3) Who in BPK had an impact on you and why?
My many classmates. It is great to be in a room of like minded individuals. You are really able to grow in that kind of environment. I learned so much from the many early morning/late night study sessions trying to understand new topics with my peers.
4) What is your favourite memory of your time at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV as an undergraduate?
I really enjoyed the classes with a lab/practical component. I found these classes gave me a better understanding of the practical application of what you are learning in class. It is one thing to learn from a book, it is a completely different thing to see how that information is used in the real world.
5) What advice would you give to today’s BPK student?
Join Co-op! It was one of the best decisions during my time at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. It gives you real world application of your degree. That experience opened my eyes to what potential careers are out there for me and ultimately landed me at my current place of work.
