Robyn Woodward
Driven by her passion for archaeology, art and adventure, Dr. Robyn Woodward has chartered her own course across much of the globe to explore its many wonders first-hand.
She truly embraced “learning as a life-long experience and has several degrees including a BA (Hons) in the History of Art from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario; a BSc in Conservation of Archaeological Materials from University College, Cardiff, Wales; an MA in Nautical Archaeology from Texas A&M University; and finally, a PhD in Archaeology from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Between graduate degrees, she lived and worked for the Institute of Nautical Archaeology in Turkey and Jamaica and for the past 18 years she has directed the excavations of Sevilla la Nueva, the early 16th century Spanish capital of Jamaica.
Robyn lectures part-time on history, archaeology, and maritime history and underwater archaeology through Continuing Education and the Archaeology Department of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, and for the past 27 years has been a regular lecturer for numerous expedition cruise companies travelling throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and the Canadian Arctic.
Robyn has served on the board of Directors for the Archaeological Institute of America, the Society for Historical Archaeology and is currently a Director of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA). Robyn represents INA on the NGO Advisory committee to UNESCO 2001 Convention on Underwater Cultural Heritage. In 2018 she was appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.
