April 26, 2021

Dr. Shaw Badenhorst is a Senior Researcher at the Evolutionary Studies Institute of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He obtained his PhD from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 2009 under the supervision of Prof Jonathan Driver, studying animal remains from Ancestral Puebloan great houses in the American Southwest.

Dr. Badenhorst’s research has since then focused on animal remains from Quaternary sites in southern Africa. These studies include analyzing animals remains associated with hominins from palaeo-anthropological sites in the Cradle of Humankind in South Africa, as well as faunal remains from Middle Stone Age sites on the subcontinent associated with early modern Homo sapiens; a time when active hunting became widespread. Other research areas include the spread and arrival of domestic animals in southern Africa.
