Biography

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. As a historical archaeologist, my research focuses on the colonial period in the highlands of Ecuador, South America. Funding for my research mostly comes from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. For a number of years I had a project in the city of Cuenca, in the southern highlands of Ecuador, but since 2004, I have been working in the Colta region of the central highlands, the location of the Spanish colonial city of Riobamba. This research explores the role of identity, gender, and power in the three centuries of Spanish colonialism in Ecuador, through the analysis of excavated domestic sites, ceramics and spatial relationships of architecture and settlement.
