Chapter 9 – Meadowbrook Elementary, Coquitlam, BC

is a public school in Coquitlam, BC, that has adopted and “interpreted the Reggio [Emilia] approach based on our own cultural traditions, experiences and environmental influences.”

Under the guidance of their teacher Ms. Emily Pitman, students created several stories inspired by Small Number's adventures.

Small Number is a pro at math, even his parents think so.

One day Small Number had to move to a different state. It was tough for Small Number to lose all his friends.

“Small Number, it's OK to lose your friends because you will make new ones!” said Small Number's dad. “Really?” said Small Number. His dad giggled and said “Yes.”

Chapter 2: Small Number goes to his new school

(The next week)

Small Number wakes up in excitement to go to his new school. “You ready to go to school?” Small Number's dad says. “Yes!” Small Number says while jumping out of his bed all ready to go.

“Small Number get in. We are getting late,” says Small Numbers dad. “OK,” says Small Number.

“We are here.”

“OK.” Small Number runs inside to go to his new class.

A teacher says, “Your class is on your right.”

Small Number says, “OK, thanks.”

Small Number goes to his new class and meets Little Number. They start off by talking to each other and they find out they are both new to this school and they set up a play date for the weekend which would be tomorrow since today was Friday.

Chapter 3: Small Number goes to Little Number's house

(The next day)

“Hey, Small Number. C'mon, let's go. Little Number is waiting for us.”

“yay!” Small Number says in excitement.

“OK, we are here!”

Small Number runs into Little Number's house.

“Hi, Small Number! Perfect timing.”

And they found there first 3 dollars under the couch! “Hey Little Number, I found 3 dollars!”

“Nice! I just found 3 too! Under a pillow!”

“OK, we each need two more to get a lollipop each!”

“Oh my gosh. I found 4 so we can both get a lollipop.”

“Nice we can go to the candy shop down the street now!”

Little Number and Small Number had to ask permission first before going to the candy shop.

“OK, we are here.”

Small Number and Little Number run inside to get a lollipop.

“That will be 2 dollar and 20 cents for 1 lollipop.”

“We need 4,” says Little Number. “Do we have enough money?”

Question: Will Small Number and Little Number be able to buy 4 lollipops?
