B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI)
The B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI) connects small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the agritech sector with academic researchers, government and industry partners to develop technology solutions that build resilient supply chains and generate global solutions for food security and climate change.
Embark food Rescue program
From a small and humble beginning, Embark has grown to represent a diverse membership base of more than 35,000 members. The Food Rescue program collects healthy yet imperfect-looking produce that does not meet the selling criteria of supermarket chains and redistributes it to the university community for free or by donation.
Food Systems Lab
Food Systems Lab is a research and innovation hub at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. It works on solutions for equitable collaboration to reduce food waste and support a sustainable food system that enhances ecosystems, conserves natural resources and mitigates climate change.

As British Columbia’s agriculture sector faces the challenges of climate change, an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV researcher is exploring one effective pathway to mitigate emissions and increase industry resilience—through increasing the adoption of cover crops.

- Since the 2018/19 academic year, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has offered 3 courses related to SDG 2, representing over 270 students. Courses include , an exploration of how food is related to cities, giving particular attention to the culture and politics of food production, distribution and consumption.

LOCAL FOOD
We take our commitment to supporting local seriously. An average of 30% - 40% of food procurement is currently local across Dining Services locations with a goal of reaching at least 50%. ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Food is on a journey to celebrate local & seasonal foods and to support local suppliers and businesses. We're proud of our B.C. foods and are actively working to bring more of them to campus.
