REEL 47 COMMENTARY

1. Right microphone disturbance for first 15".

2. Interesting rhythm of wooden clatter in a quiet ambience.

3. Beginning of ring missing, bell ends (40"), then light traffic ambience.

4. Unclear what this is. One only hears a loud white noise, as if of fast flowing water.

5. Ambience same as above, conversation hard to understand. (See notes in data sheet about the sound of lobster.)

6. At beginning of ring (2'05") slight disturbance on right microphone. Rings for 30" only and ends very softly. Wind and light traffic ambience masked by bell.

7. Talk about bell, its history, when it's rung, etc. Talk fairly distant from microphone, hard to follow.

8. Sample begins with jackhammer which recurs ever so often throughout. jackhammer is not in foreground, therefore frequently masked by passing traffic. A door that opens and closes nearby has a light squeak. Lots of people passing and talking. Good urban soundscape.

9. Same as above, also with jackhammer. Car horns (1'55", 2'50", 5'03", 7'00"). Kid asking recordist, "Hey Sir, what are you doing?" (4'15"). Tires squealing (5'20").

10. Recorded from distance, beginning missing, no good.

11. Recorded from car.

12. Nice sound. Recorded in roadside garage. Fast driving cars passing occasionally. Otherwise very quiet ambience.
