Amanda Watson wins ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Excellence in Teaching Award

March 08, 2023

Amanda Watson, a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, has received an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Excellence in Teaching Award (Online and Blended Education) for 2022.

This award recognizes instructors who inspire and facilitate student learning in ways that make a sustained, substantial and positive influence on how students think, engage and act in the world.

Watson is honoured to receive the 2022 Excellence in Teaching award in Online and Blended Education and she thanks the committees involved for their work in creating and adjudicating this new award.

"Playing a small role in developing Online and Blended Education at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV has opened my teaching and learning to an exciting and generous community of practice. I'm grateful to the many collaborators at CEE and my colleagues in FASS and beyond for their enthusiasm and patience as we experiment with new course design," says Watson.

Watson's research interests include care, labour, social reproduction, disability, climate crisis, media representation of maternal labour and identity, and feminist pedagogy. Her book, The Juggling Mother: Coming Undone in the Age of Anxiety, was published by UBC Press in 2020.

Watson is currently working on two major projects. The first mobilizes radical imagination as method to explore how young people in Metro Vancouver articulate daydreams about their future families in the context of climate anxiety. The second explores how parents of school-aged children think about their roles as parents in the context of social justice imperatives. Watson's work also appears in International Journal of Feminist Politics, Studies for Social Justice, NYU Press, Oxford, and Demeter. She regularly contributes to national media on topics related to her research.

Congratulations to Dr. Amanda Watson!
