This summer, the AAA awarded the  (CIE) the prestigious  This award “...recognizes work that presents anthropological perspectives to publics beyond the academy across diverse forms of media with methodological rigorous and ethical engagement." The CIE was founded by ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Sociology and Anthropology faculty and students who continue to lead the centre.

The CIE was co-founded by Sociology and Anthropology faculty members Dara Culhane, Adrienne Burke and Cristina Moretti, and graduates Denielle Elliot and Magdalena Kazubowski-Houston, both who are now faculty members at York University, Toronto. The founding members serve as the centre’s leadership along with Simone Rapisarda, faculty, , and Sarah Turner, consultant, , along with Alexandrine Boudreaut-Fournier,  Dara Culhane and Simone Rapisarda will serve as the centre’s co-directors until 2022.

The centre is a transnational network of 84 scholars, artists and activists who add to the research, discussions, and collaborate in the CIE’s goals, projects and events. The goals of the centre are to offer alternative approaches to ethnography, give space to challenge and experiment and to generate ethical/political projects.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is particularly proud to acknowledge S&A faculty, students and staff and ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV community members whose important work is recognized by this award, all who continue to play an active role in the development of CIE.
