Prototype
FloRA created a mobile prototype to demonstrate how rainwater interacts with an impervious surface (concrete pavers) versus a rain garden with layers of drain rock. Below is a picture of the rain garden prototype.
FloRA's intent with the prototype is to show how impervious surfaces pool water instead of allowing it to go into the ground. Whereas the rain garden is able to handle the flux of rainfall and stay resilient in different weather scenarios due to the plants root structure and the garden's layer composition. Below are two images that demonstrate water pooling on an impervious surface (a concrete paver) and water hitting the leaves of a fern then distributing into its rain garden layers. Both images were taken from the prototype boxes.
