About Charting BC's Economic Future

For our second 間眅埶AV Public Square Community Summit, we explored issues regarding BC's economic future. Faced with an increasingly competitive global economy, it is more important than ever that British Columbians find ways to work together on a common agenda for promoting the well-being of the province and its citizens. This Community Summit invited participation from residents across the province to discuss British Columbias economic future.

Speaker

Robert Reich

Robert Reich is one of the world's leading thinkers about work and the economy. Now Chancellors Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, he has served under three national administrations, most recently as Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton. He also served on President Barack Obama's economic transition advisory board. In 2008, TIME magazine named him one of the ten most successful cabinet secretaries of the past century.

Professor Reich is the author of 14 books including The Work of Nations, which has been translated into 22 languages, and the best-sellers Locked in the Cabinet  and The Future of Success, which in 2002 was ranked by Business Week magazine as the #2 best-selling business book. His book, Supercapitalism, published in 2007, warned of the perils of an under-regulated and over-leveraged financial system. In his 2010 best seller, Aftershock: The Next Economy and America's Future, Reich looks at where the economy is heading after the Great Recession and what to expect over the next decade.

Professor Reich has a nationally-syndicated column and he also writes frequently for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Financial Times. His commentaries are heard regularly on public radio. He is a contributor to CNBC, and a frequent panelist on ABCs This Week and other television programs.

In late 2003, Reich was awarded the prestigious Vaclev Havel prize, in Prague, for his original contributions to economic thinking. In 2008, The Wall Street Journal named him one of the nation's top ten thought leaders. His new film, , which was recently awarded the US Documentary Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival will be opening in theatres on September 27.
