Our graduate programs boast small class sizes and a high faculty-to-student ratio, giving MA and PhD students many opportunities to interact and work closely with various faculty members over the course of their studies.
There are regular teaching and research assistantship opportunities for our students combined with the close links to various research centres and the opportunities that arise from living in a global city.
Our MA students benefit from a variety of options for how they complete their degree, including paid co-op opportunities.
Our PhD students thrive with close relationships with their senior supervisor and committee members. They enjoy flexibility in creating their curriculum and research collaborations.
Funding
The Department of Political Science is committed to funding all our PhD students and the majority of our MA students. The main sources of funding are teaching assistantships (TAs), research assistantships (RAs) and/or graduate fellowships (GFs).
Career Development
Co-operative education is an optional program that integrates degree-relevant, paid work experience with academic study. MA students who participate in co-op apply newly developed skills in a practical context, while building a network of professional contacts.
Graduate Student Life
Graduate classes are small, allowing students to participate fully and receive time and attention from their instructors. The ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Political Science graduate student community typically consists of 40 to 50 students who are taking classes or working on their program requirements.
Graduate studies in French
¶¡ÏãÔ°AV offers the option of completing a political science Master's degree bilingually in English and French.
