B.C.'s Highest Honour Recognizes Our School Professor Maureen Maloney
Congratulations to our school's professor, Maureen Maloney, appointed to the Order of British Columbia in B.C. Day, August 1.
The Order of British Columbia is the highest civilian honour that "recognizes those persons who have served with the greatest distinction and excelled in any field of endeavour benefiting the people of British Columbia and beyond."
194 British Columbians were nominated this year. Maloney was one of the 14 outstanding people appointed to the Order of British Columbia. The Order of B.C. investiture ceremony for the recipients is scheduled to be held at the Government House in Victoria in the late fall of 2022.
"My main thrust, along with many other people, has been to make life easier for people who are disadvantaged, particularly in the justice system," Maloney says.
Maloney joined our school as a professor in 2010 and focused on teaching and researching justice systems, international human rights, conflict management, and resolution. Before joining our school, Maloney was the first woman in B.C to become a law school dean in 1990 and the first woman to serve as B.C.'s deputy attorney general in 1993.
