Community Consultation: Employment Equity (GP19) Review
The following message is sent on behalf of Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, Vice-President, People, Equity and Inclusion. It has been sent to all faculty and staff.
Dear University Community,
The Employment Equity Policy (GP 19) governs employment equity at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. The policy ensures that no individual is denied access to employment opportunities for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications, such as gender or race. The policy was last revised in 1992 and is now being revised to ensure: (1) it reflects current applicable legislation (2) expresses ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s ongoing commitment to equitable employment.
Amendments to GP 19 express our ongoing commitment to equitable employment and reflect current applicable legislation and updated roles and job titles. We invite you to learn more about the proposed policy updates and provide your feedback by April 3, 2025.
Key information about the proposed policy amendments:
a) Naming the legal, policy authorities and agreements that are consulted in GP 19 to ensure the language employed in the policy is aligned with federal and provincial standards;
b) The policy sponsor, as this policy was last revised before policy sponsors were included in the policy itself;
c) Changes in roles and titles to reflect the individuals and office who are responsible for the implementation of the policy.
