Dr. Danninger wins Faculty Research Award

September 07, 2022

Matthias Danninger was selected as a recipient of the 2022 Early Career Faculty Research Award from the Faculty of Science.

Dr. Danninger’s research at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV explores two exciting and promising ways to search for signs of new physics that might help understand dark matter and how neutrinos get their mass. He is a key member of ATLAS, a particle detector experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, and the PI of the Pacific Ocean Neutrino Experiment (P-ONE), an international initiative to construct one of the world’s largest underwater neutrino detectors off the coast of British Columbia. Since joining ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV in 2019,  Dr. Danninger was awarded a Tier 2 – Canada Research Chair in Particle Physics and is an Affiliated Scientist at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre. The committee recognized Dr. Danninger for his leading roles in these international collaborations and his impressive funding record.
