Synopsis

Everything around us, in fact pretty much everything in the universe is made up of matter. There is virtually no antimatter in the universe. I will discuss why this matter–antimatter asymmetry cannot be explained with the Standard Model. New physics models that try to address this existential problem have some common features. I will give an overview of these beyond-the-SM predictions and discuss how we can search for them in various ways, e.g. at the LHC, with gravitational wave detectors and with ultracold neutrons.
