Diamagnetic Levitation: How It Works and Its Future Potential
Afan Terko, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Physics
Location: AQ 3153
Synopsis
Magnetic levitation, a frictionless and contamination-free method, is gaining traction for many applications. Specifically, levitation via diamagnetism offers passive stability without energy input, even at ambient temperatures. This phenomenon allows even seemingly nonmagnetic materials to levitate inside a magnetic field and also stabilize the levitation of magnetic materials. This seminar will look at the fundamentals of magnetic levitation via diamagnetism and its rapidly expanding applications. We will explore the theoretical underpinnings, shedding light on the unique properties of diamagnetic materials and the primary mechanisms that drive levitation. Furthermore, we will highlight current applications and offer insights into future developments.
