Synopsis

A novel technique for improving particle acceleration is dubbed "direct laser acceleration," which involves irradiating electrons through an ion channel. In this presentation I discuss the equation motion of an electron in a two-dimensional ion channel after being exposed to laser radiation. I will show that the electrons accelerate faster in ion channels than in vacuum through analytical and numerical solutions, and that plasma is essential for short-range particle acceleration. This method serves as a source of GeV electrons, X-rays, gamma-rays, multi-MeV protons, and ions, which are used mostly in cancer treatment and medical imaging.
