Searches for Long-Lived Particles in the ATLAS

Synopsis

The Standard Model (SM) describes three of the four known fundamental forces, i.e., electromagnetic, weak, and strong interactions. Although the Standard Model is believed to be theoretically self-consistent, it falls short of being a complete theory of fundamental interactions by leaving some phenomena unexplained. Some theories of physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) predict particles that can have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at a weak scale. I will discuss searches for long-lived particles (LLPs) in the inner detector of the ATLAS particle collider experiment. I will also discuss how the use of a Graph Neural network could aid in enhancing the sensitivity of future searches.
