A Process for Capturing CO2 from the Atmosphere
Mar 6, 2020 at 1:00pm in C9000
Synopsis
The scientific community agrees that global warming has - and will increasingly have - disastrous consequences for human health. Despite the overwhelming evidence, the willingness of the world to change behavior seems to be limited. Negative emission technologies refer to methods of removing carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas, from the atmosphere and sequestering it for a long period. These technologies seem to be an essential tool in the future for limiting global warming and meeting the targets of the Paris Agreement. This presentation describes a process of capturing CO2 directly from the air, which was developed by the company 'Carbon Engineering' based in Squamish, BC. The main features of this direct-air-capture technology are described and the estimated costs and prospects of a large-scale deployment of these industrial plants are summarized.
