Electrochemical Energy Storage: Materials and Devices
May 18, 2018 at 12PM
Synopsis
I will briefly describe my overall research and development experience, focusing on electrochemical energy storage materials and devices (batteries, supercapacitors). As an example, I will present a development effort for a high energy density lithium-ion battery that is capable of long-term deep discharge/storage near zero volt (~0V) including 0V without sacrificing battery performance and durability when resuming battery normal operation. The ~0V storage is a very desirable feature which affords battery longevity, safe transportation, low maintenance, and safe long-term storage, particularly for large format batteries/packs. The strategy to design a high performance, ~0V storage capable battery will be described with a long-term ~0V storage and recovery performance demonstration. I will briefly discuss future research directions in electrochemical energy storage.
