August 2024 Update
Accreditation Milestone Reached
The School of Medicine's accreditation team has arrived at a significant step in the CACMS (Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools) accreditation process. The team has submitted the Data Collection Instrument (DCI) and the Medical School Self-study (MSS), both of which met the August 1 deadline. The team will now focus on making any necessary revisions to the DCI ahead of the final submission deadline of September 15, after which time the School will await CACMS’ review and decision on whether it will be eligible for an accreditation site visit in spring 2025—the successful outcome of which would be the final step towards achieving preliminary accreditation.
Growing Team
The School is pleased to announce that Christine Burnell has joined its leadership team as Executive Director, Operations this month. Christine brings a wealth of experience in post-secondary education, having held management and leadership positions at various Canadian institutions. Most recently, she served as Director, Operations and Administration at the Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, and previously held roles at the University of Toronto, York University and Ontario Tech University. The School’s leadership team will continue to grow—watch out for new leadership roles to be posted on this page.
The School also welcomed Caroll Lai as Senior Advisor, Academic Affairs. Caroll was previously with Fraser Health and has led recruitment initiatives, developed talent pipelines and built referral relationships across Canada and globally.
