Royal Society of Canada Honours Eleven Including Murray Munro
, including Murray Munro, Professor, Linguistics and author of Applying Phonetics: Speech Science in Everyday Life.
This is the greatest number of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV faculty elected to the RSC in any year and membership in the RSC is Canada’s highest academic honour.
The department of Linguistics heartily congratulates whose ground-breaking research in applied linguistics has changed the way we think about second language acquisition and the intelligibility of second language learners.
His work is recognized internationally for refuting widely-held assumptions that the window of opportunity for successful speech learning closes in childhood, with implications for psychology and child development. It also exposes unethical practices in language teaching and confronts discrimination against immigrants with foreign accents.
On Friday, November 19, 2021, the RSC will welcome the Class of 2021 new RSC Fellows and new Members of the RSC College and present awards for outstanding research and scholarly achievement. The ceremonies have been adapted to ensure all new members will participate – whether from home, from campus, or in Montreal. They hope you will join in celebrating this stunning landscape of talent, imagination, discipline, and discovery.
