Congratulations to all our Fall 2021 Linguistics Graduates!

On October 5 at 10 am, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV held our first in-person Convocation ceremony since Fall 2019. Graduate and undergraduate degrees, and certificates on our Linguistics Grads both in person and virtually.

Zeyu Huang graduated with a Major in Linguistic and a Certificate in Language Speech Science. Linguistics Department Manager and Academic Advisor Rita Parmar had an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Linguistics gift for her and for all Linguistics Grads who were invited to drop by the department after the ceremony.

In her moving Graduand Address, Mizuki Giffin said, "After being away from campus so long, it is certainly a special feeling to be gathering here together again. Our graduating class is a group who finished our last 5 semesters remotely, comuting to class though a click of a button, from our bedrooms around the world.  For for many of us this will be the first time we are back on campus for nearly a year and a half."

Although we were not able to have our usual Linguistics Department Convocation Reception following our convocation ceremony, our Chair wrote to our graduating students.

Here is some of what Dr. Panayiotis A. Pappas conveyed:

"I am writing to let you know how proud we are of you! The entire faculty and staff at Linguistics join me in extending their heartfelt congratulations. Together we wish to underline for you, what a significant achievement is to have earned your degree....Linguistics is one of the most demanding programs in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and we know that it takes hard work and dedication to succeed in our program. We also want you to know that this work pays off and opens doors. Our graduands routinely get accepted in top-tier graduate and professional programs and embark on satisfying careers..."

Indeed we heard from many of our grads that they already feel they are on their way. We are happy to highlight a few of our graduating students with some feature stories that let us get to know them better and hear about what some of them are doing next.

Read about a few of our graduating students in stories being updated here all through Convocation week.
