Description: For this project, I would like to find out if there is pedagogical value in having students play an active role in sourcing media examples that relate to course concepts, since this may better represent the cultural diversity of the students. I use the concept of ‘horizon’ in the project title as a reference to Gadamer’s concept of the ‘fusion of horizons.’ This notion is based on hermeneutic-phenomenological concepts relating to subjectivity always being situated within definable horizons, which can fruitfully encounter the different horizons of others. Based on student surveys and interviews I would like to measure the extent to which students found this exercise interesting / worthwhile. Using student submissions, I would also like to measure the extent to which students thought the exercise enhanced their learning and how the student media examples incorporated and linked to course concepts.
Questions addressed:
- Do students find this exercise interesting/worthwhile?
- Do students think this enhances or impacts their learning?
- Does this improve student learning?
- How on-the-mark are the student media examples relative to the course concepts?
Knowledge sharing: I plan to write a blog and disseminate that way.
