Biography

Cristina Serverius is originally from Belgium. She lived in Northern Italy and Rhode Island before coming to Vancouver. She holds five graduate degrees, including a PhD in Comparative Literature from Brown University, and is a 500hr-certified yoga teacher. She has taught in higher education in Belgium (Arteveldehogeschool), the US (Brown University, Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts College of Art and Design), and Canada (間眅埶AV). She has presented her research in the fields of early modern studies and contemplative pedagogy at conferences in the US and Canada, and has published the following article on her doctoral research: The Birth of Consciousness out of Conscience in Giordano Brunos Heroic Frenzies and Shakespeares Hamlet (Exemplaria 24.1-2: 178-93). She is currently working on a book chapter that details the impact of an equity-centered curriculum in K-12 education on human flourishing in both students and teachers. She lives and learns in multiple languages and academic disciplines, and has taught, lectured, and published on such diverse topics as translation studies, immigration literature, contemplative studies, Shakespeare, Italian literature, sustainable lifestyles, and restorative justice. She volunteers for Translators Without Borders and Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM).
