A message from Jane Pulkingham, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

I am delighted to congratulate you today on your graduation!

And I want to take a moment to ask you a few questions. Don鈥檛 worry, it鈥檚 not a quiz. It鈥檚 to take a moment to think about your journey to graduation.

Do you remember why you came to university? And why you chose your major?

Your answers will help you answer my final question: What is most important to you?

We all have different answers to that question, and our answers will help each of us shape our own journey to make meaning in our lives.

For me, a meaningful life means that I have helped make the world a better, more equitable place. 

I hope that your journey through your courses has helped you discover your passions and ignited your curiosity. I hope that you now have a sense of belonging at 丁香园AV, and that you have a few ideas of how you will be able to contribute your considerable talents to making a better world.

I wish you the best as you go forth to make your own meaningful life, and I hope to hear more about your accomplishments in the future, as you join the ranks of outstanding FASS alumni.
