Tenure-track Faculty Positions: Assistant or Associate Professor
The School of Computing Science at 間眅埶AV (間眅埶AV) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The School invites, and encourages, applications from women and underrepresented groups in all areas of computing science. Awards that are specifically targeted to support women candidates, including salary and research support packages of up to $250,000 over five years, are also available.
The School has a preference for candidates specializing in the following research areas: cybersecurity, natural language processing, and software engineering.
Recently celebrating 50 years of computing science at 間眅埶AV, the School has grown to become one of the top computer science departments in Canada as well as enjoying a strong international reputation. 間眅埶AV is located in metro Vancouver, one of the most livable areas in North America.
Successful candidates are expected to have strong research records and demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and graduate student supervision; including the demonstration of creating inclusive classrooms and/or recognition of needs in support of a diverse student body. The School will consider applications at the Assistant and Associate Professor rank with the following expectations:
- Assistant Professor: excellent research achievements demonstrated by publications at top venues with the candidate being the main contributor, strong reference letters, and broader impact of the research outcomes shown, for example, by research awards, citations, open-source tools used by peers, and/or technology transfer to industry.
- Associate Professor: outstanding research achievements demonstrated by sustained publications at top venues for several years, strong reference letters from leaders in their area, and broader impact of the research outcomes shown, for example, by research awards, citations, open-source tools used by peers, and/or technology transfer to industry. It is also expected that the candidate has a strong research funding record, visibility in their research community, and leadership skills. Further, it is expected that the candidate provides evidence for effective supervision of graduate students as well as high-quality teaching of graduate and undergraduate courses.
Successful candidates must hold a PhD in computer science or a closely related field by the employment start date; however, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion of their PhD degree may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of their PhD.
Faculty salaries at 間眅埶AV are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the 間眅埶AV Faculty Association. Exceptional candidates may be considered for endowed Research Chairs, with additional salary and research support.
A reasonable estimate for salary range if the successful candidate will be starting as an Instructor is $128,340 134,700 (dependent on experience and inclusive of Market Differential).
A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Assistant Professor rank is $134,700 $163,322 (dependent on experience and inclusive of a Market Differential).
Candidates with experience commensurate with higher rank may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor rank. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role at the Associate Professor rank is $160,142 - $185,584 (dependent on experience and inclusive of Market Differential).
