Intangible: Memory and Innovation in Coast Salish Art

was an exhibition held at the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast art in 2017. The exhibition was co-curated by Beth Carter of the Bill Reid Gallery and Dr. Sharon Fortney, Curator of Indigenous Collections at the Museum of Vancouver. The exhibition featured the innovative works of six contemporary Coast Salish artists: Marvin Oliver (Quinault / Isleta Pueblo), Tawx'sin Yexwulla/Aaron Nelson Moody (Squamish), lessLIE (Cowichan, Penelakut and Esquimault), Sesemiya/Tracy Williams (Squamish), Ostwelve/Ronnie Dean Harris (Sto:lo / St'at'ime), and Roxanne Charles (Semiahmoo).

In 2018, the BRC hosted a scaled down version of the exhibition in collaboration with the Bill Reid Gallery. The installation at the BRC emphasized six short documentary films featured in the original exhibition, and created by students from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT). The student films were produced in collaboration with the artists and under the direction of Dr. Kate Hennessy and Dr. Aynur Kadir.

By utilizing the touch screen, the BRC's off-site exhibit put a strong emphasis on the student films, and facilitated an immersive experience of the artist's stories. The short films created by ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV students in IAT 344: Moving images can be found here.
